In a brief
To arrange for a wedding it will take quite a bit of preparation, starting when the groom with his family comes to ask  or propse for the lady's hand. The groom cannot come alone because his family presents him and his morals. Also, there must be other men in his family, especially his father, grandfathers or uncles, who can go with him to the home of the bride to speak with her father, uncle or brother. Th first thing they should do is to tell her father that they are coming to their house to talk to them about their daughter. If the father welcomed with this subject and say yes to them, then they can come and start talking about it.
Many wonder, how weddings in Oman are prepared? If you are willing to find out read the following information.

Mainly there are two types of weddings since we live in the 21st century. You are going to read about the two types and how people get ready to have a wedding in their houses. First, i will start with the traditional weddings.

The trditional weddings

The trditional weddings in Oman consist of many traditional things such as, danceses, women dresses, food and songs. Usually men say the songs but also, women used to sing and dance just like men but the dancese are completely different from each other and they vary from region to another according to their traditions and clothes.

This picture shows men dancing and they are carrying weapons in their hands to show that they have the power and control everything in life.

Of course, the dancese are differentiating from each other according to the region they live in and they wear different clothes (dishdashah, bisht, mosar and khanjar). They also, carry swords in their hands to repersent how happy they are in that special day.

This picture includes the grooms and there dancing is reflecting their happiness.

Now, i will start with the modern one and what kind of changes happened to the tradtional weddings in Oman.
The modern wedding
The modern wedding is including only the bride because of the changes in wearing the dress that they used to wear before. The tradtional dress was representing their traditions but now you won't see an Omani bride who is going to weare the Omani dress may be in some houses, who knows anyway.

These pictures are showing the traditonal dress that women used to wear in their weddings and how much beautiful they were.

The other pictures you see are showing the modern dress that Omani women are wearing it in our days.

There are a huge difference in both of them. If any one asked me which one do you prefer, i would say both because both of them express traditions. The Omani dress represnts us and the white one represnts the westron countries. Moreove, they carry a very special meaning to everyone.

Wedding customs vary in different regions of Oman and each of the provinces or regions of the Sultanate
has its own customs in marriage.I will speak in general for the marriage ceremony in the Sultanate of Oman and the steps followed by customs Oman. The most important step that the groom should do is to propse first in order to know the answer of the girl. Then, he has to pay an amount of money which is called the dowry and in Arabic we call it Al-Maher. Then, comes the most important step which is the engagement and writing the contract of the wedding between the man and the woman.

This is the first step after paying the money to the bride as accepting gift from the groom.
Engagement:
The engagement starts after the bride's answer. If she said yes then, the groom come to her house and they ask for a mount of money to be paid to the bride. After that, the groom family should put a date to write the contract that says this woman is his wife. in this step it doesn't need tha much prepartions because only the two families come to it and witenss on this marriag between two these people.
This picture shows the gifts that have been given to the bride.

The second step is the ceremony of the dowry. This steps i have never seen it happening in my sisters weddings but some families do that according to the region they live in. I have seen this ceremony in my neighbor's house. The woman who was singing she was carring something on her head and say a song and the rest of the women were repeating everything she says and clapping too.

Ceremony for the dowry, or the right:
First: meet the guests in the house of the groom, and then they carry the dowry to the bride's house and the attendant a brigade popular, and a group of women requirements to carry the bride on the head in the trays decorated with  Bars and covered with fabrics, and dancing start dancing and singing. There are special songs for this occassion. After reaching the bride's house peopele are welcomed by the groom and his family and perform the duty of hospitality towards them.
 Secondly :

Gifts presented the groom demands and  all members of the family start giving gifts to her. For example: (a gold contract submitted by the sister of the groom)  and women the same from all members of the families.

Almndos
Marriage contract as i mentioned before this contract is doing usually in the mosque after evening or afternoon prayers.Entries The father of the bride and the father of the groom council to meet the men of the tribe and the neighborhood to witness on this marriage.

This most important step to start a family is contract and how the contract or the is sit:
Asks the father of the bride to complete the ear holding the Holy Quran and the father of the bride sends a written message to the person who believes in him, of the clergy to complete the marriage contract and restricts the power of attorney from the father of the bride and the bridegroom or recognizes the father of the groom. This person is personally responsible fo rthe wedding of the groom.

After writing the contract and every thing is completed the groom goes to the bride house to see her and talk to her in order to get know to each other. the bride should spen her time prepare her self to be ready when the time of wedding comes and move from her parents to her husband house and start a new life with him. She needs to buy lots of things to her such as new clothes, shoes, jewelry and so on.

Wedding, or Al-Naqlah (shift):

The (shift) term used for a wedding, when the bride has been transfered to her husband's house. The transfer beging three days before the ceremony of the wedding.
In the begining of the wedding ceremony before the transfer of the bride to her husband's house with five or three days.

Henna's party:

Hannah is very important in every Omani house and women love to put hennah on their hands and legs. It has a good smell and it last for a long time, for about three weeks. Women are the responsible for putting hennah on the bride. They have to be patient because while putting hennah on someone's hands it takes time and they need to sit for about two hours without making any movement. The bride should start putting hennah two days before the wedding but some of them do it before the wedding. Most Omani families make a special party when they start puttung hennah. They sing, dance, talk and help each other. The hennah of the bride should be different from others and she puts hennah in her arms and legs. She has to becareful because if she moves or did something wrong the hennah will be nothing and she has to do it again. In my house we don't do that, the bride goes to a woman place who can do it in a berfect way and pay her some money. Sometimes, they pay 25 to 50 riyals according to the time and what kind of hennah she put on her. I don't know the kind of hennah but i love putting hennah on my sisters hands.

The night of the wedding :

What is the night of the wedding do you think:
this night is considered to be the most important night in the bride and the groom life. it is the step were the groom come to his bride's house and see her in her day wearing the dress and look so beautiful. He is going to see her and look at her. Then, they will start taking pictures together and with the members of both families. Girls start dancing in front of them and singing. Two hourse later he will take his woman and leave the house and go to their new house or go to a hotel and stay for one night. most of Omani peopel don't do that but nowadays lots of them love to go to hotels and spend their night there.
What i love about this night is when all of the cars drive in one way and make noise and paying with the cars lights to let other peopel see and know about this special day. Most of the time when the groom comes to take his bride he bring a band to dance a sing songs. On the next day people come to see the bride and congrtulate the family and the groom as well.

This picture shows how the woman used to weare for her wedding

Women in Oman still weare this dress but is it going to last for ever or will vanish?
In my opinion, it will never vanish because the old women love to weare it and it is much more beautiful than the dress we see now. If anyone asks me i will say it will last for ever and stay to present our culture.
I will say this and keep saying it.
